The first thing you should know is the definition of a motor point. A motor point refers to a specific spot on the skin where minimal electric current can stimulate muscle contraction. Generally, this point is located near the entry of the motor nerve into the muscle and corresponds to the movement of limb and trunk muscles.
①Place the electrodes along the shape of the target muscle fiber.
②Place one of the electrodes as close to or directly on the point of motion as possible.
③Position the electrode sheet on the surface of the proximal motor point.
④ Place the electrode on both sides of the muscle abdomen or at the start and end point of the muscle, so that the motor point is on the circuit.
★If the motor points or neurons are not properly placed, they will not be in the current path and thus cannot generate a muscle response. It is recommended to start with the first therapeutic dose of NMES at an output intensity level, gradually increasing it until reaching the maximum motor threshold tolerated by the patient.
